What a lazy blogger

I know it’s been a week and I’m still uninspired to write. Last week was a good week mom came to Lufkin where I was working to spend the week with me. We really had a good time and I’m glad I have been assigned a place close enough she can come see me.

I caught a nice summer cold on the way home so the weekend was spent sniffling and sneezing. And today I am on my way back to Houston. Next week I get to head back to Oregon and I’m really excited to get that long flight again. It gives me time to write and do things I never seem to do on the shorter flights.

I had sworn off vacations this year to focus on the remodel at the house. Well this is a testament to my will power… I booked tickets to South Dakota and then later this year I’m heading off to Isla Mujeres. So much for not taking a vacation! Good thing I get all the frequent flyer miles and the costs are minimal. When I was able to secure my tickets to South Dakota for the lowest miles and $10 I thought I just have to do it.

So I will get to see the area my dad grew up in. I have not been there since 1995 when I went to my grandmother’s funeral. My dad was raised in the Black Hills in a town named Custer.

He always told me when he went into the military that he found out there were places you could live and not have the bitter cold. He never went back there to live, only to visit after that.

Well it wasn’t much to write about today and just the mixed up ramblings. At least you all know I’m still alive though.

Don't know if I'd be rushing to NDakota, but since you have family there.....But Isla Mujeres is another story! Will you be visiting Sue?

Custer? I wonder who that town was named after? I agree with your dad about living in milder climates. I'm not very familiar with the Dakotas, although I think we did knick the edge of South Dakota once on a trip north from Valentine, Nebraska. I've heard the Badlands are beautiful.

Isla Mujeres! Can't wait for my October/November trip. It's been over a year and I can't wait to get back.

For one of the first times, I couldn't get frequent flier tickets. I think I could have flown Delta if I'd been willing to stay over in Atlanta. The free first class tickets are still pretty wide open, so maybe next time I'll have the miles to cover a couple of those.

wahoo! Cowboy country~ we have relatives in Douglas, Wyoming - a hop and a skip west of there...a completely different lifestyle, let me tell you! No one wants to live there, that's why tickets are cheap! Your daddy made a wise decision regarding the warmth....the cold up there is simply wretched! Glad to hear from you finally....I was thinking I might have to make a road trip to SC!

You know, the remodel will always be there. Take the vacation, everyone needs downtime and time away from daily life. Glad I'll see you in December!

Oh when will you be on Isla in December? I will be there 12/29 – 1/15. I would love to meet you if we overlap. OR for that matter the next time you might be in the PDX area we could do dinner.
Don’t feel bad about being a lazy blogger. Post a photo and add a comment. What’s that cliché “a picture tells a thousand words”? Kind of like your Myrtle Beach bridge post.

Vanessa - I know so much for swearing off vacations for the year. Seems like that means I go more places.
