The sand on the coast is so beautiful and I knew if I wanted to see it that I needed to see it last week before the winds and tides changed. I watched on the news the other day and they said that oil has now hit this small island - but one of my posters said it hasn't. One can hope they can keep the oil off these beautiful beaches.
For those who have never seen the offshore derricks I have included pictures. And just so you know what the beaches look like I’ll put a few of those pictures up too.

Even without the threat of oil on the beach, the view of those derricks out there ruins what a beach is supposed to be all about - water, sand, sun, and fun. I hate how we are destroying all that nature has given us.
The oil spill is a flipping shame and nightmare! Not only to the environment, but I can't even imagine the economic losses to fishing and tourism.

It's amazing how our news stations can tell us one thing and the locals tell us another. David from the island said it has not hit there yet. Of course CNN was showing them on the map just yesterday - so much for the news right.
Ditto what Sue said. That is an ugly site on a beautiful beach even without the oil. I pray for the people and the wildlife.
Thankfully oil drilling is not allowed off the Pacific coast. I would hate to see that ever happen and spoil the views we have today.
Jackie - we don't have any drilling off the Atlantic Coast either (at least for now). I always thought it was because our Hurricanes each year but they have worse hurricanes in the Gulf so that can't be why.
I certainly hope they don't start drilling off our coast. There is something to be said for only seeing boats off in a distance from the beach.
